Residents Warned of Fraudulent Calls from Someone Posing as Rutland County Council
Rutland County Council is warning residents not to provide bank details over the phone after receiving a number of reports of cold callers posing as Council officers.
More than ten residents have already contacted the Council today (10th September 2018) to say they have received phone calls telling them they are entitled to a Council Tax rebate.
Councillor Gordon Brown, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Regulatory Services and Revenues and Benefits, said: “Rutland Council would never ask residents for banking information over the phone. If you are entitled to a rebate, residents would be contacted by letter.
“We are urging residents to hang up, should they receive a call like this, and contact Action Fraud on 0300 1292040 or through their website at www.actionfraud.police.uk”
