Distraction burglary at the home of an elderly woman in Oakham
Detectives investigating a distraction burglary in Oakham yesterday (Wednesday 10 June) are appealing to anyone who may have seen two people acting suspiciously to get in touch.
A woman in her 70s reported being visited by a young man just after 11 am, he claimed there was a water leak at the back of her property in Brooke Road.
While she was distracted with the first suspect at the back of the house she became suspicious and asked for identification. She returned to the property to find a second man had entered the house.
Both suspects left and at this stage it’s not believed anything was stolen.
The first suspect has been described as being white, of slim build 15-20 years old, about 5ft 2ins tall, with short, tidy blonde hair. He was wearing a grey jacket. The second suspect was also white, with a tanned complexion, about 40-45 years-old, broader than the first suspect, with dark hair. He was wearing a brown leather jacket. Both suspects were described as having foreign accents.
Detective Constable Samantha Bates is investigating the incident, she said: “If you recognise these descriptions or if you were visited in similar circumstances please get in touch.
“The victim did become suspicious about the initial visit and asked him for identification and both suspects left the property. We would always advise that people check the identity of any unexpected visitors before letting them into the house. If you have suspicions contact 101 immediately.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4411 Bates on 101, quoting crime number 20*294060.
