RUTLAND internet safety event 8th February 1.30 – 6.30 pm at the Rutland County Museum

 

 

 

RUTLAND INTERNET SAFETY EVENT

 

Rutland County Councils Early Help Team and Community Safety team are hosting an internet safety event supported by experts from UK Safer Internet Centre, PACE (Parents Against Child Exploitation) and Leicestershire Police at the Rutland County Museum 8th of February.

 

The internet offers amazing opportunities and it is believed that there are currently over 36 million Britons using the internet every day. Children and adults can play, learn, create and connect but with more and more new viruses appearing every day, the threat to web users personal information through hackers, phishing and malware scams, is greater than ever before. With the digital world changing all the time, do you know how to keep yourself and your children safe?

 

The event is running 1.30pm – 6.30 with guest speakers delivering focused presentations covering a range of digital safety topics at designated times:

2:00pm Leicestershire Police:                                                                                             Online fraud, spam, information security and healthy internet habits

4:00pm Safer Internet Centre:                                                                                                      For practical advice on talking to children aged 4 – 10 years.

5:30pm Safer Internet Centre:

For practical advice on talking to children aged 11 – 18 years.

 

Practical advice includes; online gaming, image sharing, privacy settings,                    parental controls. Other organisations in attendance will be;

Child Sexual Exploitation Team, Rutland Community Safety, Rutland Youth Service.

What are Snapchat, Instagram, Omegele and Vine? What are the pluses and minuses? What about Apps? Do you need to monitor them? Is filtering or monitoring what children do always a good idea? At what age do you buy them a mobile phone? These are amongst some of the questions raised by parents and answered by our experts at this event.

Come and find out why dialogue is such a powerful tool. How filtering may work, how research is showing changes in use and types of use of technology by children. Discover easy to use built in tools like age and time restrictors in gaming platforms like your Xbox. How to apply Google filters on Google images, filters on YouTube and other practical quick tips. You protect your child in the offline world – now we can help you do the same online!
